What a beautiful quote:

My will and my desire were both revolved,
As in a wheel in even motion driven,
By Love, which moves the sun and other stars.

It's easy to see why Dante is considered one of the fathers of modern literature.

Hi there,

I just wanted to mention something in addition to this post. My own path, even though it is not orthodox in any way, is very much based around Christ and Christian imagery. I am therefore very comfortable in using orthodox prayers.

For those seekeing alternative formulations of a simple prayer like the Jesus Prayer, could try searching within the Sufi tradition, or you could experiment with Fonn from the Ceile De tradition. You can find examples of these here:

http://www.ceilede.co.uk/the_fonn.htm

Regards

Hi there, I just thought that it might be worth pointing out to those who are interested, where they could find out more background info about the idea of 'Intermediate Christianity'.

This idea seemed to originate in a book by Jacob Needleman called:

Lost Christianity

(ISBN-10: 0385000111 / ISBN-13: 978-0385000116)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lost-Christianity-Jacob-Needleman/dp/0385000111/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213718611&sr=8-8

In the book he theorises that the reason why much of modern Christianity fails in changing most poeple for the better is because it has lost teaching related to a 'lost' intermediate level of Christianity, which is necessary to link the basic tenets with the advanced goals of 'Christlikeness.'

Its worth checking out.

Have a great day.
